Scary Movie 5 Lands Ashley Tisdale For Leading Role
Former Disney Channel star Ashley Tisdale has seen her young career go down multiple paths while putting in work for the ber-popular network. But, in a world where you can become type-cast faster than you can say Jaleel White, one must eventually branch off from her roots and attempt to sprout a new path. So, is Ashley Tisdale ready to head into the world of spoof comedy?
Dimension Films has announced the casting of the actress as one of the leads for theforthcoming Scary Movie 5. Malcolm Lee (Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins) will direct the project, while David Zucker, who directed the 3rd and 4th Scary Moviefilms is co-writing and producing the 5th.
Before Tisdale tackles her new role she will bedonning the producer hat for the Bravo showMiss Advised. The show will be produced through Tisdales Blondie Girl Productions and will air on June 18, 2012.
The original Scary Moviewas released in 2000 and throughout the franchises history the films have spoofed a number of horror movies, from The Exorcist, Scream, I Know What You Did Last SummertoSaw.
Anna Faris won't be back for 'Scary Movie 5'.
Franchise star Anna Faris (The Dictator),recentlyturned down the opportunity to headline the latest chapter of the franchise, thus opening the door for Tisdale to step in. While many would argue that theScary Movie franchiselost a lot of its luster after the first two films, one cant deny thatFaris ability to pull off the goofy female protagonist was a bright spot throughout. Whether or not Tisdale will be able to pull off such a role remains to be seen.
Tisdale joins High School Musicalalum Vanessa Hudgens on a growing line of actors/actresses who have found success with the Disney network but are now slowly trying to distance themselves from the brand in order to begin new chapters in their professional lives. Of course, money (especially Disney money) talks, so would we really be surprised if we saw Tisdale in a potential College Musical?Probably not.
